Miners Lacrosse Summerslam Action Returns Tonight!

It’s Tuesday and that means lacrosse action! The Miners Lacrosse Summerslam Tournament resumes tonight after an exciting opening week.

I was there last week when the tournament opened up and the action was truly non-stop. The wrinkle of no face-offs after each goal guaranteed the flow of the games would be frenetic. Each game featured highlight reel goals that lifted me out of my seat and saves that made me say wow. Please do not take my word for it though, go check it out for yourself.

All games are at Servus Place in St. Albert. Covid restrictions are in place so there is a maximum of 100 fans allowed in attendance. You are kindly asked to follow all the social distancing guidelines and you are recommended to wear a mask. Please fans, if you do not feel well, stay home – the tournament plays every Tuesday and Thursday until August 20th.

Tonight’s full schedule is the cover photo to this article. Each game is two 10-minute halves playing with running time.

League Standings (found HERE):

  1. Muckmen 3-0-1
  2. Pickers 2-0-2
  3. Bullfrogs 1-1-2
  4. Sizzlers 0-3-1

For a look at the rosters, here’s the tweet the Miners account put out to announce them. I give you the tweet in part because the Miners Twitter account is the best avenue to keep your finger on the pulse of the tournament.

Bullfrogs vs Pickers

Action starts with the 1-1-2 Bullfrogs trying to leap up and catch the Pickers (2-2) in the standings. The Bullfrogs won the initial battle between these two teams 5-4 led by a B. Schmermund hat-trick.

Sizzlers vs Muckmen

The winless Sizzlers (0-3-1) will then try to snap the undefeated streak of the Muckmen (3-0-1). Heading into the tournament these are the two teams I pencilled into the finals. With the Sizzlers Mammoth connection of John Lintz and Erik Turner and the Muckmen trio of Richard Lachlan, Graedon Cornfield, and Darren Kinnear, I stand by pre-tournament guesstimate.

Muckmen vs Pickers

The Muckmen previously defeated the Pickers 6-2. This is the first time the Muckmen will be the team playing back-to-back games. The Pickers rebounded immediately from their loss and won the second game of their back-to-back. The Bullfrogs, the only other team thus far to play a back-to-back, also won their second game of their endurance test. Can the Muckmen continue the trend?

Bullfrogs vs Sizzlers

The Bullfrogs and Sizzlers played to a 6-6 tie. Surely that won’t happen again right?
